Ron Finley: A guerilla gardener in South Central LA

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

Perhaps one of my favorites talks this year at TED…Ron says it all. Plant Some Shit!

“Ron Finley plants vegetable gardens in South Central LA — in abandoned lots, traffic medians, along the curbs. Why? For fun, for defiance, for beauty and to offer some alternative to fast food in a community where “the drive-thrus are killing more people than the drive-bys.”

Ron Finley grows a nourishing food culture in South Central L.A.’s food desert by planting the seeds and tools for healthy eating.”

One World Futabol Project

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Very cool project at OneWorldFutbol.com where they built  “a virtually-indestructible ball that never goes flat and never needs a pump. Our goal is to bring the joy of soccer and play to youth in disadvantaged communities so that children can be children no matter where they live.”

Making Play Power.

I already bought a few! Buy a yellow or blue one here…or just donate!
Watch some great videos of them trying to destroy it. (truck drives over, it, let a Lion play with it, stab it with a knife a few times, or all 3)

Boaz Almog “levitates” a superconductor

Friday, July 6th, 2012

How can a super-thin 3-inch disk levitate something 70,000 times its own weight? In a riveting demonstration, Boaz Almog shows how a phenomenon known as quantum locking allows a superconductor disk to float over a magnetic rail — completely frictionlessly and with zero energy loss. Experiment: Prof. Guy Deutscher, Mishael Azoulay, Boaz Almog, of the High Tc Superconductivity Group, School of Physics and Astronomy, Tel Aviv University.

Boaz Almog uses quantum physics to levitate and trap objects in midair. Call it “quantum levitation.”

Isaac’s Live Lip-Dub Proposal

Saturday, May 26th, 2012

This might be the best Marriage Proposal that I have seen in some time. It’s a mix of surprise, Broadway musical, roller coaster/amusement park ride, co-ordination, and a whole bunch of people! Anyhow, watch it and think how to top that and be original!

How to wake up a kid

I just had to post this! This is how all humans should wake up, and of course different songs would do different things.

“Here’s to the Crazy One” Quote Poster

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

Awesome Letterpress Poster! Too bad they  are not available anymore.

“The now iconic quote debuted in a 1997 television commercial for Apple Computer. The text was said to have been partially written by then Apple CEO Steve Jobs (along with Rob Siltanen and Ken Segall). He embodied the characteristics in this quote arguably better than anyone in history. Today it lives on as a mantra for artists, inventors, entrepreneurs and innovators around the world.”

Caine’s Cardboard Arcade

Tuesday, May 1st, 2012

Did you ever invent with boxes and leftovers when you were younger? We’ll I certainly did and this video documenting 9 year old Cain certainly brought me back to those days, but back in those days, there was no Youtube, or internet….but if there was…something like the video above might have just happened.

After watching in  the delightful rather cheery video, go check out CainsArcade website, and help them raise money and others like Cain for future education. (they already have close to 200k!)

Hydro-Fold by ECAL/Christophe Guberan from ECAL on Vimeo.

WOW! Hydro-Fold is a beautiful project taking thin sheets and printing watery thin patterns on them allowing them to fold up by themselves!  Watch the video above and watch the magic happen.
